Human Target Executive Producer Steinberg Explains Why We Won't Be Seeing The Disguises One criticism from fans of the Human Target comic book series is that the lead character won't be wearing disguises as he does in the print series, even though he did do such a thing in the short-lived Human Target TV series of the early 1990s.
Executive producer Jon Steinberg today explained at the Television Critics Association Press Tour in Pasadena, California why that won't be the case this time around:
"The conceit works in print, but as soon as it becomes flesh and it becomes detrimental to the story," Steinberg explained. "How do we make this real? If there was a guy who did this job, how would he do it? How would he get into your life? It was clear to us, it was to create an action hero, that were like the ones I grew up with, Indiana Jones and John McClane. It's hard to fall in love with Indiana Jones if he looks like someone else every week."

Human Target Mark Valley Wants To Be Captain America Geoff Boucher from the Los Angeles Times recently caught up with Human Target star Mark Valley, and one of the topics covered was Valley's interest in playing another famed comic book character - Captain America - in the upcoming movie based on the Marvel comic book.
Here's a brief excerpt/tease:
GB: Apparently you are the man that fanboys want to see carrying the famous red, white and blue shield of Captain America.
MV: Yeah, I know! Somebody showed me that. I was kind of blown away. The power of the Internet, you know? And there might be another reason: I’ve just been walking around in Captain America suits every once in a while on weekends. I didn’t really think it would really go anywhere you know. That’s just a personal hobby of mine.

FOX's Schedule Announcement Includes A Human Target Synopsis FOX's 2009-2010 press release includes a descriptive write-up of Human Target.
Here it is:
It takes a brave, selfless man to make himself a “human target” in order to save the lives of those in danger. Based on the popular DC Comics graphic novel, HUMAN TARGET is a full-throttle action drama centered on CHRISTOPHER CHANCE (Mark Valley, FRINGE), a unique private contractor/security guard hired to protect. Call him what you like, because for Chance, it’s about one thing only: saving his clients’ lives. When there is an unusual or imminent threat that can’t be solved through “normal” means of protection, Chance is hired to completely integrate himself into his clients’ lives – to become the human target. If you’re a corporate manager whose disgruntled employee has gone violently off the deep end, Chance is your new auditor. If you’re the president of a bank who’s been tipped off to a potential heist, Chance is your unassuming bank teller. During each job, Chance, assisted by his business partner WINSTON (Chi McBride, “Pushing Daisies”) and hired gun GUERRERO (Jackie Earle Haley, “Watchmen”), puts himself directly in the line of fire as he races against time to save his client, while unraveling the truth behind the mission. With every new danger, Chance’s dark history will also unravel. Does anyone know who Christopher Chance really is, or what secrets lay buried in his past? What would make a man willingly become a HUMAN TARGET?
Reports from today's USA Today had this to say about Human Target's scheduling:
"In midseason, Fox will use Idol's reliably huge lead-in to launch Human Target, a show based on a DC Comics franchise about a security agent (Fringe's Mark Valley) who assumes new identities as a human shield to protect clients."
If this update is true (and we really can't say anything's a "sure thing" until FOX unveils their schedule to advertisers later today), it could be a great vote of confidence for Human Target, to tie its premiere in with FOX's #1 show, American Idol. An AI lead-in has worked wonders for shows like Fringe or even House.
As soon as we get updates, you can expect them here at Target419.

Now Relocated... KryptonSite's Human Target Spotlight Is Now Target419! Now that FOX has announced that they've picked up the show, KryptonSite's Human Target news and information site has now moved to a new domain... Target419.com.
Hopefully it will be a great resource for those wanting to know more about the project as it comes up.
Why Target419? The simplest reason is that names like TargetSite were already taken. But why 419? Christopher Chance, the Human Target, first appeared in the comic book Action Comics #419 over 35 years ago. Consider this our little tribute.
Please spread the word about the site and stay tuned for more details as FOX announces their Fall 2009 schedule on Monday!

"Peter Rice saw it and loved it," a source told Finke, who added it is now considered FOX's best drama pilot for the new season.

Pilot Spoiler Information! Target @ KryptonSite now has details from the pilot episode of the new Human Target adaptation.
Welcome to Target @ KryptonSite! The FOX television network has put in a pilot order for a new television adaptation of DC Comics' The Human Target - a character who first appeared in Action Comics #419 way back in 1972.
The Human Target is Christopher Chance, described in the character's Wikipedia entry as "a unique private detective and bodyguard named Christopher Chance who operates by impersonating his clients in order to eliminate threats to his principal. Since Chance makes himself a target, he, in essence, becomes a 'Human Target'."
Comic book appearances by the Human Target in early years were mostly relegated to back-up features in Action Comics and other books; he never had a comic to himself until a Human Target special in 1991. That special issue - written by Mark Verheiden of Smallville and Battlestar Galactica fame - was created to tie in with a then-upcoming ABC TV adaptation of the comic book character. That adaptation - produced by Danny Bilson and Paul De Meo of Flash fame - lasted for only seven episodes, and starred Rick Springfield as Chance.
In 1999, writer Peter Milligan and the late artist Edvin Biukovic took a shot at the Human Target for a very successful four-issue mini-series under DC's Vertigo comics imprint. Later, a new graphic novel and ongoing series would follow, though the series is no longer being published. Most of the highly-acclaimed Milligan era can be found in trade paperback form.
The new Human Target TV pilot is written by Jericho co-creator Jonathan Steinberg and producers include Warner Bros. Television and McG's Wonderland Sound and Vision.
No casting news is known at this time, though if done right, this could be a very exciting project! And more importantly... if it does happen, how long will it be before Rick Springfield is someone that he impersonates?
